M.Sc. Environmental Physics

Postgraduate Programme Environmental Physics
Atmosphere, Ocean, Ice, Land, Climate

The focus of our Master Programme is to educate students by providing knowledge of the complex relationships between atmosphere, hydrosphere (ocean), cryosphere (ice region), solid earth (land) and climate. Gaining experience in the application of experimental methods relevant for environmental physics at an advanced level, numerical data analysis using supercomputers and data interpretation via sophisticated models are study objectives.

This Master Programme will provide you with the physical, mathematical and chemical principles, which are used in the modern research undertaken by the participating research institutes IUP (Institute of Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen) and AWI (Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven). It is intended to develop skills and problem-solving capability for subsequent use in experimental design and project development of relevance for subsequent research and employment.

The Master Programme in Environmental Physics offers:

© Universität Bremen/Noel
  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Physics (120 credit points / after 2 years)
  • German Master of Science mit Wahlfach Umweltphysik in Physik
  • English as medium of instruction
  • First-class teaching + excellent research
  • Specialization according to your personal interests with a broad choice of optional courses
  • Communication of theoretical knowledge plus practical skills

Career Prospects
Graduates of our Master Programme qualify for …

  • admission to doctoral studies at the IUP, AWI or any other institution elsewhere
  • conducting research at universities, research centres or authorities
  • worldwide employment opportunities in agencies/companies dealing with climate, weather or energy related topics (remote sensing and Earth observation in particular)
