Passive Optical Remote Sensing
- Passive Optical Remote Sensing
- Lecturer: Dr. C. v. Savigny
Lecture content:
This lecture provides an introduction to optical remote sensing of the Earth atmosphere using passive methods with a focus on satellite remote sensing. The course begins with a detailed description of the light sources for passive optical remote sensing, namely the sun and atmospheric airglow emissions. Moreover, radiative transfer, instrumentation and inverse methods are discussed to the extent required to understand the remote sensing principles. It follows an in-depth discussion of remote sensing of the chemical composition of the Earth atmosphere, as well as stratospheric and mesospheric aerosols, and the atmospheric background parameters wind and temperature.
